Paragliding
Today’s Paraglider might justly be called the "modern hang glider". It has all the attributes for long distance cross-country flights and flights well in excess of 300 km have already been made in Australia. Paragliders have the ability to fly in the lightest of conditions and are often the fastest climbing glider in thermals. On top of all that it weighs only 15kg, fits in a backpack and takes only 5 minutes to set up or pack up. This makes the Paraglider the smallest, lightest and most versatile aircraft in the world which happily sits in the boot of your car or on your back as you travel the world!!
At Wingsports we know only too well that many people are not willing to commit themselves to a full training course until they have checked things out. For this reason we offer an introductory course to allow you a taste of Paragliding. This intro course is a great flying experience. After many years of experience in teaching paragliding Wingsports specializes in teaching small groups and private tuition as this turns out the best pilots . Who would have thought you would safely be flying solo within 2 days! …. Anyone who is not completely hooked after that experience never will be!! Paragliding is the only flying sport where you can fly solo in such a short time. Generally we run Introductory Courses on most weekends but they can also be done midweek if you wish. The two-day course follows the same format as the first two days of the license course described below and counts for two full days towards the 7-day license course.
In Paragliding the restricted license will take 7 days in most cases. The exact format of the seven-day course depends to an extent on the prevailing weather conditions but it follows the following profile approximately.
Most prospective hang gliding students have very little idea as to what is involved in learning to fly a hang glider, but if you have the right mixture of unbridled dedication and a lot of spare time for flying, you cannot look past our unique training program. Over 10 years, Wingsports has continually modified this training program and the result is a methodology of immediate high flying tandem training combined with the use of high-tech tow launch training followed by mountain flying in both coastal and inland environments. This method has consistently turned out a very high standard of pilot. The use of extensive early stage tandem training allows our instructors to gradually and safely hand over the skills and responsibilities prior to your first high solo flights. This also provides a large amount of airtime, both in tandem and solo, throughout the course.
Due to the more complicated nature of hang gliding tuition it is not possible to achieve high solo flights in 2 days. For more information on hang gliding tuition please refer to: Crossing Over. A hang glider pilot finds it easy to convert to paragliding. All knowledge will be in place and the Paraglider is much easier to fly and land. Many hang glider pilots learn to fly a Paraglider in 2 to 3 days. From paragliding to hang gliding is a far less common occurrence and there is more time required to get familiar with the critical hang gliding skills required for safe take off and landing…. Maybe as long as 5 or 6 days.
