XC-trainer technical specification The Aircotec flagship is the XC-trainer it is a fully integrated Vario -GPS flight computer , is world renowned for its performance and currently used by the world champion paragliding pilot.
OUR EXPERIENCES WITH THE XC: As the Australian importers Aircotec obviously Fiona and myself have flown extensively with the XC-trainer's for the last two years, pretty much constantly really, mostly cross-country flying and we are very impressed by this simplicity of use for so many features. you really just switch it on and go! I have previously always used an Aircotec top navigator myself . but I absolutely fell in love with the XC trainer, so much smaller, 25 hours of battery and frequent downloadable software updates .This instrument integrates vario-GPS in such a way that it tracks thermals through altitude changes, The whole thing is a bit smaller than a Garmin, 72 it is half the size of my top navigator and does more! MOUNTING IT.For paragliding the unit comes with an extremely good solid Neoprene and Velcro bracket, which on most harnesses holds the instrument at exactly the right angle from the centre harness strap. For hang gliding there is a dedicated bracket that fits any upright or base bar configuration. DUAL?The differences between the dual and the standard model are simply that the dual is the latest one and has a higher level of sensitivity in all ways. The instrument software can be constantly , and very simply, updated directly from the Aircotec site and this opportunity arises frequently as the software development allows for continuous growth in the features, and functionality. POST MORTEM?The entire flight including all thermaling sequences can be played back, both on the instrument or on your PC, at your leisure in order to evaluate your effectiveness in thermals, centering accuracy etc .it gives a full evaluation of flight performance and conditions and I guess the stupid name trainer now comes into its own . It is fully compatible with competition and download programs such as Compe GpS, in a dedicated high-speed download mode to such programs and quite a few others. At home we use Comp GpS as a logbook and flight evaluation system as it has a dedicated to download facility for this instrument. the whole flight takes only seconds to download. Aircotec is also developing its own software program TN-complete for flight evaluations and storing, we think that Comp GPS is the better version for logbook and flight evaluation, it is at the moment the best program for running multiple instruments and downloading maps. You can organise your entire log book on this program. It is for that reason that we do not use the Aircotec log system however this may change as development goes on. It goes without saying that the flight darter download is fully compatible with competition scoring systems. As far as downloading new software goes, you simply download the download a file from the Aircotec web site, you can do this any time you like, and download the latest software each time that it comes out. This is obviously all for free. These downloads and improvements are generally in relation to functionality and additional features that can be programmed into the instrument. I find It is really good to have a folder with all the superseded software.
