This manual contains 124 pages of information relating directly to the learning process, and advancing skills of new to intermediate paraglider pilots. It deals in-depth with the safe planning process of flight including many you when factors considerations that may help prevent errors in the early flying days. HISTORY.the
The modern paraglider was conceived, like all early flight attempts, from some very basic equipment and a lot of daring! In Europe on the ski slopes, pilots would launch parachutes off skis, a bit like ski-base jumping. After some time, attempts were made to improve the glide and soaring capabilities of these parachutes which, for some time, resulted in a sizeable trade-off for safety. Canopies that frequently misbehaved in thermal conditions needed very specific pilot input to make them recover and fly properly again. Today's paraglider certification has separated gliders into pilot experience/skill categories. An entry level/intermediate glider is tested to return to level flight from any weather or pilot induced malfunction in a matter of seconds without input from the pilot. The equipment has therefore become a lot safer!
However, the safest equipment and the ease with which a paraglider can be flown are meaningless without a skilful, well-prepared knowledgeable pilot to fly it.
Throughout this manual, alongside the training syllabus of a qualified Paragliding school and instructor, we hope to instill a level of skill, planning and mature pilot attitude towards safe flying.
