For flying conditions we use AWS ( automatic weather station ) readouts that can be obtained from the weather bureau's site. http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDV65119.shtml The AWS useful to us are Airies inlet and Cape Otway. For forecasting the following links are useful In any S to SW direction the wind will get lighter as you move westwards towards Johanna. This gives you options on Bells ,Moggs creek ,Apollo Bay and Johanna getting lighter as you go. In an E direction the opposite occurs making it stronger as you head west , your options then are Southside and if light Apollo Bay.
Torquay: S/SE and some E Aries inlet (Moggs Creek , Spion):S/SW Apollo bay (Marriners Lookout) :E ,SE, S/SSW often Thermic. Johanna: S ,SW
Saturday: Southwesterly winds 20/30 knots moderating to 15/20
knots during the morning, then easing to 10/15 knots later.
Please
note that these predictions cover the immediate area of my operations
and include recommendations to seek out both other coastal sites and
inland flying without prejudice .
It is our recommendation that as many pilots as
possible attend the the great flying is and competitions that the sky
high club organize wherever they be !!
